RTX

The world’s most modern emergency vehicle

Rosenbauer designed the RTX from a clean sheet as a pure firefighting vehicle — not a diesel truck with a battery. Electric drive, instant torque, a 10-inch step-in, all-wheel steering and a fully connected cockpit. Sold and serviced locally by Heiman Fire.

At a glance

A fire truck, reinvented

The RTX isn’t a converted chassis. Its electric drive is the starting point for a long list of firefighting-first design advantages — for deployment, for the scene, and above all for the crew.

Revolutionary technology

Rethought — not renewed

For most manufacturers, a new product is the sum of its new parts — components renewed, existing ideas developed a little further. Rosenbauer took the opposite path with the RTX and reconsidered the entire firefighting-vehicle concept.

Yes, the RTX is electric. But the electric drive is just the starting point of a long series of unique design features — a lower center of gravity, a driveshaft-free body, a 10-inch step-in, all-wheel steering, and a fully connected cockpit. It was designed to meet the future requirements of today’s fire services, which makes it a game-changer not just for Rosenbauer, but for the industry.

Who it’s for

A forward-thinking option — not a mandate

The RTX is brought to market for progressive fire departments seeking an electric solution for their fleet. We’re honest about what it is — and what it isn’t.

Straight talk

An option for the cities that want one

Let’s be clear-eyed about the market. The US fire-apparatus market on its own isn’t large enough to carry the load of an entire engine-manufacturing program — and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. The RTX isn’t here to replace every diesel rig in the country.

What it is: a serious option for the departments and cities that have set fleet and emissions goals — many of them targeting 2040 — and want a credible way to get there. For those departments, all we’re doing is offering a choice: an apparatus that is forward-thinking, sleek in design, precise in engineering, and globally tested — already proven in service with departments around the world, and backed locally by Heiman Fire.

Revolutionary in every way

Designed around the crew and the scene

The RTX rethinks the parts of a fire truck that wear crews down and slow a response. The ones that matter most:

1
Step in, don’t climb up
The driveshaft-free body drops low, and in operation mode level regulation lowers it to a 10″ cab-floor height — the easiest entry and exit of any fire truck, with far less long-term strain on crews.
2
Instant torque
Two electric motors deliver up to 37,000 ft-lbs of torque the moment you press the pedal — unprecedented acceleration for a fire truck, especially pulling away in heavy city traffic.
3
Extreme maneuverability
All-wheel steering cuts the turning radius to about 47.5 ft wall-to-wall. Optional switchable rear-axle “crab” steering tightens it further for narrow streets and tight bays.
4
Low, balanced, stable
The battery layout gives a low center of gravity and even axle-load distribution — unprecedented cornering stability and a real reduction in rollover risk.
5
Narrow superstructure
Despite its spacious interior, the RTX is only 92.5″ wide, so it reaches the scene quickly even through tight passages — and optional electronic mirrors trim the width further.
6
Low equipment access
The driveshaft-free design lets compartments extend downward, so equipment sits at heights crews can reach without lifting overhead — less strain, faster deployment.
7
A connected cockpit
Rotatable driver and officer seats and an open crew cab create an oval seating arrangement for face-to-face communication — with the central deployment display at the center of it all.
8
Shadowless scene lighting
High-performance perimeter LED strips flood the working area with shadowless light — in many scenarios eliminating the need for a light tower on the apparatus.
9
Quiet and emission-free
On battery power the RTX is nearly silent and emission-free at the scene — better air and less noise for crews and nearby residents alike.
10
Enormous configuration variety
It looks cast in one piece, but each RTX is tailored to its mission — 500–750 gal water, 20–30 gal foam, a range of foam systems and roof or bumper turrets.
Revolutionary agility

Driving dynamics never seen in a fire truck

The RTX isn’t a diesel swapped for a battery. A completely new drive architecture makes a rescue-pumper this size handle, corner and stop like nothing before it.

RTX turning radius — 47.5 ft all-wheel steering vs 57.5 ft front-wheel
Turning radius — 47.5′ all-wheel steering vs 57.5′ front-wheel (RTX with 173″ wheelbase, wall-to-wall)
High torque from the start

Two motors, up to 360 kW / 490 HP peak (350 HP continuous) and 37,000 ft-lbs of instant torque — rapid acceleration exactly when a response demands it.

Low center of gravity

The drive concept lowers the center of gravity and balances the axle loads, for cornering stability that reduces the risk of accidents on the way to the call.

Tighter turning radius

Rosenbauer’s suspension allows a much broader steering angle: about 47.5 ft with all-wheel steering versus 57.5 ft on the front axle alone.

Narrow superstructure

Just 92.5″ wide despite its roomy interior — the destination is reached quickly even on narrow streets, and optional electronic mirrors help in the tightest alleys.

Rear-axle crab steering

Optional switchable rear-axle steering reduces the turning radius even further and enables crab steering — wheels parallel on both axles for tight, confined maneuvers.

Regenerative braking

The electric motors recover energy under braking — less brake wear, fewer fine-dust particles, and energy put back into the packs.

Electrical & lasting

Full electric power — with a diesel safety net

The RTX runs its drive, pump, lights and equipment directly from two battery packs. When an operation runs long, the optional energy backup system — a 300 HP clean-diesel generator — automatically recharges the batteries so there are no performance limits, ever.

Safety first

Safe drive. Safe operation.

The safety of the crew and everyone around the scene takes top priority — and the RTX uses an unprecedented set of measures to protect it.

Extremely high driving stability

A low center of gravity keeps the RTX far more stable than a conventional fire truck through fast cornering — a high degree of driving safety, built into the architecture.

Active assistance systems

Optional electronic rearview mirrors with a wider field of vision and night vision eliminate blind spots, a full rear-view camera covers behind, and automatic object recognition (coming soon) helps avoid collisions.

Perfect illumination

Integrated LED lighting delivers a clear view around the whole truck — brightness that previously took powerful light towers to achieve.

Reduced injury risk

Generous headroom, a low 10″ entry and easily reached compartments significantly reduce the risk of injury — and with battery operation, emissions on scene drop to a minimum.

Distance & obstacle sensors

Optional distance-warning sensors detect obstacles around the vehicle, supporting the driver in tight, challenging situations.

Easiest operation

Intuitive touchscreens plus conventional switches and a customizable actuation button keep the controls simple — so errors are avoided when they matter most.

Enormous variety

Extinguishing technology, your way

The RTX looks cast in one piece, but Rosenbauer offers extensive configuration options — especially in firefighting equipment. Each truck is tailored to the job it’s built for.

Questions departments ask us

The honest answers to the questions crews raise first about going electric.

Yes. The RTX carries 132 kWh of onboard energy across two battery packs, and for extended operations an optional energy backup system — a 300 HP clean-diesel generator — automatically keeps it charged. Rosenbauer designed the operating times to exceed NFPA requirements, so the drive, pump, lights and equipment can all run from the batteries with the backup ready when you need it.
With a full 150 kW input, about 15 minutes takes the 132 kWh storage from 50% to 80%. In everyday use it simply charges at the station between calls.
It can. The pump runs either purely on the battery-powered electric motor, or — especially on long operations — on the diesel energy backup system. Both normal-pressure and combined normal/high-pressure pumps are available, and either can be run fully in battery mode.
Each RTX is configured for its intended mission: 500 to 750 gallon water tanks and 20 to 30 gallon foam tanks, with a range of foam proportioning systems and roof or bumper turrets available.
The opposite. Two electric motors deliver up to 37,000 ft-lbs of torque instantly for strong acceleration, a low center of gravity keeps it planted in corners, and all-wheel steering cuts the turning radius to about 47.5 ft. Optional rear-axle “crab” steering tightens it further for narrow streets and tight apparatus bays.
The RTX is driveshaft-free, so the body extends lower and, in operation mode, level regulation lowers it to a cab-floor height of just 10 inches off the ground. Crews step in instead of climbing up — less strain, fewer injuries, faster in and out.
On battery power the RTX is nearly silent and emission-free at the scene — better air for crews and residents, and far less noise. Regenerative braking also reduces brake wear and fine-dust particles.
A low center of gravity for stability, optional electronic rearview mirrors with night vision and blind-spot elimination, a full rear-view camera, distance/obstacle sensors, and automatic object recognition (coming soon). High-performance LED strips light the whole scene shadowlessly — often removing the need for a light tower.
Yes. An optional power supply unit lets the RTX supply up to 6 kW of external power to run several devices at once, with the energy backup system engaging for extended operations.
